Voters are turning against party of Ukraine war hawks as they are doing more and more across Europe

Arne Juhl, once a Social Democrat (SD) “eye-catcher”—the proud face of the early retirement reform nicknamed “Arne Pension”—has dropped his support for Mette Frederiksen and the Social Democrats after voting for them for four decades. Recently retired, the 65-year-old feels that the party has “lost touch with working-class values.”[1]

Before Mette Frederiksen became prime minister, the age to receive a state pension was 67. Frederiksen raised it to 70, and wants to increase it to as much as 75. Arne feels betrayed. He knows that no matter how long one lives, one’s body cannot hold out after 68 for most work.

“Arne’s main frustrations are the government’s financial priorities, including large-scale aid to Ukraine, high food taxes, and the continuously rising retirement age. For Juhl, the Danish surplus should benefit citizens at home, not be spent abroad,” writes the English language local “The Daily Dream.”

“I see no logic in a system that keeps high rates on fresh produce while lowering others [such as chocolate candy]…We have a huge surplus of resources, but why must they be burned up for a war, which we cannot win,” Arne says.

Mette Frederiksen has led the Social Democratic Party and two governments since June 2019. On November 18, 2025, SD experienced the worst regional election in a century thanks to its leading role in spending more on the Ukraine-Russia war than any other country per capita, and number four in absolute sums—$13 billion, with another couple of billion in the pipeline.

Frederiksen led a single party SD government between 2019 and December 2022. She then aligned with the conservative Moderate Party—an off-shoot of the Liberal Party—and the land-owners’ conservative Liberal (Venstre) Party. Frederiksen’s ratings before the proxy war against Russia fluctuated between 27% and 35%. Following regional elections, Frederiksen’s rating fell to 17%.

During Frederiksen’s first term as prime minister, she spoke too honestly when she told the media that President Donald Trump’s proposal to buy Greenland was “absurd.” Insulted, the narcissist said she was “nasty,” and canceled his planned trip to Mette-land. However, they soon met in London for a NATO meeting on December 4, 2019. When they emerged, Mette told the media, “We swing well.” Nevertheless, they are no longer “swinging” together, either. Trump wants out of Obama-Biden’s proxy war, while Mette seeks a Ukrainian-European victory.

Social Democrats lost mayoral posts in most towns and main cities, including the mayor’s post in Copenhagen, which it has held for more than 100 years. While it was expected the SD would lose some terrain, the results were shockingly catastrophic, which has led the mainstream media for the first time since the Ukraine/European-Russia War to question if Denmark/EU can continue financing this debacle.

Concurrent with Arne’s surprising critique, the mass media are reporting that many SD mayors and councilmen are asking Mette Frederiksen to step down as their leader. This would certainly mean that she would not run for re-election in the 2026 parliamentary elections. A recent poll already shows that only 55% of SD voters want her; 18% want her resignation; and 27% are undecided.

Mette has since changed her disdain for the Chinese-owned TikTok. She is on it with young people, in an attempt to attract youth to her party while older adults are dropping her.

War Costs

The sum of $13 billion that Danish taxpayers have spent on the Ukraine war as of October 2025 amounts to $2,100 per person.

That is more per capita than any of the 57 nations backing Ukraine financially. It is also 45% more than Denmark’s defense budget just before the war. The U.S. has appropriated $184 billion for a population of 340 million, according to the March 2025 Department of Defense figures. That is only $540 per person.

The Social Democrat-led governments have increased defense spending from 1.3% of its GNP to 3.5% since 2022, and plan to reach 5%, in order to meet President Trump’s demand of NATO members. Defense budgets have tripled since 2022.

According to EU figures from August, the EU has spent $186 billion. EU has decided to use $157 billion for 2026-27. Part of that sum will come from stealing (“immobilizing”) much of the $250 billion of Russia’s frozen assets kept in Western financial institutions.

For nearly four years, Danes have been trained to think that they are protecting Ukraine’s “democracy and sovereignty,” and damn the costs. None of the 12 parliamentary political parties, nor the handful of Communist and Trotskyist parties, consider that Russia has the right to protect its sovereignty against the ever-encroaching NATO alliance. Six NATO countries now border Russia out of 14 countries around its border. Schools do not allow pro-Russian views to be taught, nor do the media allow pro-Russian views to be expressed, not even now.

The mass media usually do not report on Ukrainian corruption, but they did when, on November 10, anti-corruption investigators revealed that at least $100 million was siphoned from contracts to rebuild energy losses, plus money laundering conducted by Justice Minister German Galushchenko and, ironically, Energy Minister, Svitlana Grynchuk.

Investigators also searched Tymur Mindich’s house just hours after he fled to Israel, in order to avoid possible prosecution. Mindich is considered President Zelensky’s close associate and confidant. Among other roles, he is co-owner of the TV production company “Kvartal-95,” which Zelensky helped set up.

In reality, Ukraine’s government officials have skimmed scores of billions of dollars from the $400 billion+ sent to Ukraine by governments, i.e., not including private funds sent. While the media have not seen fit to show us so much corruption, it is no longer taboo to be wary of continued support, despite the population’s traditional culture of not challenging Denmark’s authority powers. This scandal created skepticism about just what this war is all about only a week before Danes went to the polls. Even CIA-friendly Wikipedia admits that corruption is endemic: “Corruption in Ukraine is a significant issue that effects society going back to the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.”

Welfare Down by Billions of Dollars

The largest magazine in Denmark is Ældre Sagen (Senior’s Cause) with a circulation of 750,000 out of a total population of six million. It often reports on how the governments are spending less on welfare. Since 2015, welfare spending has steadily decreased.

Senior’s Cause shows how much less support there is for seniors who cannot care for themselves without communes’ health care. Lack of help for bathing when needed has increased to 37% from 20% in 2021, just before the war. Percentage of elders’ lack of help in cleaning homes has increased to 45% from 33% in the same period.

Only 40% of those who have need for help at home or take a walk receive it, whereas it was 56% just four years ago. Scores of community senior care centers have closed, mainly in rural areas. So rural families must travel to cities to visit their old folks.

Sanctions against Russia are finally having a boomerang effect. Danes/Europeans have to use much more money to import expensive oil and gas energy sources from Norway and the U.S. after they sabotaged the Nord Stream pipelines, with Swedish and Danish assistance.

Food prices have skyrocketed in the past couple of years. Just before the war, Danes used an average of 15% of their income for food; they now spend 17%. Food prices have increased 32% from five years ago. Moreover, some favorite items have skyrocketed in price: coffee by 67%, hamburger meat by 50%, cheese 47%, milk 44%.

As if to compensate for decreased funds for basic living costs, and growing war weariness, PM Frederiksen spent time during her local election campaign to provoke Russia, even though that election had nothing to do with foreign policy.

She blamed Russia for sending drones over Denmark for which no evidence has been forthcoming. Frederiksen also claimed that a Russian tanker, the Boracay, which was sailing peacefully in international waters close to Denmark, was a “provocation.”

She made those charges while entertaining 26 heads of state to discuss how to keep the war going in Ukraine. Her French sidekick, President Emmanuel Macron, then sent a warship with soldiers to seize the Boracay with the intention of putting its captain on trial.

Macron explained: “We want to increase pressure on Russia to convince it to return to the negotiating table…[We are moving] toward a policy of obstruction when we have suspicious ships in our waters that are involved in this trafficking.

“Trafficking” means shipping oil to and from countries, which is what the world’s capitalist economies do.

The Danish government is also encouraging more youth to join the military for longer periods than the 11-month draft, which was increased from four months recently.

The draft now includes women. The proposal to have women forced into military garb came during this war by a former communist party, now called Enhedslisten (Red/Green Alliance or Unity List).

It has nine of the Parliament’s 179 members.

Denmark Invites Ukraine to Produce Rocket Fuel

In September, the Danish government announced that it would build a factory for Ukraine missiles near Skrydstrup’s military airport in Vojens.

Skrydstrup is where most of Denmark’s F-35s are located and where the U.S. will have one of its military contingents. This is the first time that a NATO country has invited a Ukrainian firm to produce weaponry on its soil.

The Ukrainian company Fire Point—which appointed former CIA Director Mike Pompeo to its board—is behind the project.

Fire Point is best known for developing the 3,000-km range Flamingo cruise missile, which is having difficulties when fired. Fire Point and Denmark will employ a couple of hundred workers.

They will produce rocket fuel for at least two types of ballistic missiles: FP-7 and FP-9. These missiles will be transported to Ukraine where the military will fire them at targets inside Russia. The FP-7 has a range of 200 kilometers at a speed of 1,500 meters per second; the FP-9 has an 855-kilometer range at 2,200 meters per second.

At first, it was left unstated whether fuel will be made for the Flamingo in Denmark. Nevertheless, Denmark is considering buying some Ukrainian missiles and/or U.S.’s long-range Tomahawk. Denmark has put up $80 million for the rocket fuel project.

Many local residents are not happy about more taxpayer money being invested on yet more weapons systems for Ukraine. Marielle, a woman in her 40s living in Vojens told The Defense Post: “I don’t like it, it’s too much. We are a small country, we have paid a lot of money to Ukraine.”

The Danish media reported the response of Russian Ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin: “Denmark is determined to continue the bloodshed in Ukraine. If Ukraine produces rocket fuel for cruise missiles on Danish soil, then it is increasingly difficult not to consider Denmark a direct participant in the conflict. The Ukrainian side has stated very openly that these missiles are intended to carry out attacks deep inside Russia.”

A week after Zelensky’s buddy Mindich fled to Israel, it was revealed that he is the “mastermind” behind Fire Point. Citizens living close to the planned factory and opposition political parties now demand that their government assure people that no corruption will take place when the Ukraine team comes. Factory-military leaders are not publicly questioning why to do this when it is all too apparent that Russia will win this war soon.

On November 30, the main war commander and peace negotiator, Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak, was forced to resign due to new economic corruption revelations, the extent of which is not yet public. These scandals tell the world that Zelensky only wants personal loyalty for his sidekicks, and not honesty and competence—à la Trump.

Nevertheless, construction of the Danish-Ukrainian war factory began as planned on December 1, under the name FPRT ApS. The media let many local citizens express concern that something amiss could occur, such as explosions of fuel inside the factory, and concern about what Russia might do.

Denmark Supports Palestinian Genocide While Preparing for Total War

Denmark’s warring government also supports Israel’s genocide against Palestinians. There was even an arms fair last August with seven Israeli weapons firms selling their wares and Danish weapons sold to Israel. The weapons festival was held at the invitation of Denmark’s military.

Two parliamentary parties complained about Israel’s participation. What was the Danish government’s explanation? “We need to quickly rearm for national security to meet the Russian threat.”

Frederiksen and company have concocted one falsehood after another about how Russia will attack, first, one of its non-NATO neighboring countries, then, one NATO neighbor and, within five years, invade the entirety of Europe, which includes 30 NATO countries with 2.1 million troops compared to Russia’s 1.5 million.

Some 600 million people inhabit the 30 European NATO countries, compared to Russia’s 140 million. NATO’s total troops are 3.4 million with the U.S. If Ukraine were to join it would have 4.32 million.

Allegedly, the only obstacle for Russia’s total invasion of Europe is to finish the war in Ukraine. Denmark’s only government intelligence agency, the Defense Intelligence Service (FE), subordinate to the CIA, purports this scenario without offering one iota of evidence.

Since this hypothesis-as-truth surfaced last February, we have been repeatedly told by politicians, military experts and the media to prepare for war by storing water, food, medicines, hygiene articles, warm clothes and blankets, batteries, flashlights, cash, sun-cell or battery radios for three days. Shelters should be constructed or repaired. Land-owner associations call community meetings to learn how best to prepare for war, while military experts are available to give advice.

Danish Voters Are Tired of War Cries

Following the recent economic corruption cases and the media’s war enthusiasm downturn, the media are reporting that the screeching for hoarding and preparing shelters is wearying. The media report that very few people are actually following the government’s advice.

In September, dozens of drones (possibly) of various sizes popped up over civilian and military airports. Some were in the air for four hours the first day. Earlier reports of the like turned out to be that the “drones” were sun reflections, but this time they were real, meant the government.

The hard-core right meant: They should be shot down. Middle-of-the-roaders pointed out that, when Poland shot down a drone, its own missile destroyed a Polish house.

The key tabloid newspaper Ekstra Bladet went bananas. Its September 26 headline, “Drone Catastrophe-Denmark Humiliated” started seven pages of text and photos with front and back cover—one-fourth of the newspaper.

Its reporters sharply criticized the government-military management for not either shooting them down or intercepting them, or knowing where they came from or where they went.

When the media did begin to open up for criticism of the endless war, I was surprised to see the government-sponsored DR TV’s “War’s Day” weekly program on November 26. It closed with a truthful and cynical major in the Defense Academy stating: “If the Americans pull out completely, it will be very difficult for Ukraine but still better for us Europeans to continue fighting there, and cheaper than fighting Russians elsewhere.”

Two days later, I was again pleasantly surprised to read the front-page story in the Christian Daily: “Critique: Drone-Communication Has Created Fear and Wild Theories.”

The article opened with a staunch supporter of the Ukraine war. He said, “Frederiksen and government rhetoric brings Denmark more in danger than what is necessary, and that worries me…Denmark’s interference in the war is too quick-tempered.”

The article pointed out that in September, after several days of government shouting about how the Russians are threatening “our skies, our airports,” silence ensued. No proof of what the “drone interference” really was, not even if they were drones, nor where they came from. Nevertheless, Frederiksen would not give up her rhetoric about the evil Russians. The newspaper quoted her: “It is primarily one land that constitutes a threat: Russia.”

The daily ended that the government presents its people with “a lack of information [regardless of what the disturbances were] the point is the government wishes to frighten the people and, in that way, keep them in an iron cage.” (Emphases added.)

Just three days before this seminal front-page story, PM Frederiksen spoke on television about how it was still possible for Ukraine with even more massive European aid to win the war. She said so after Russia completely rejected Europe’s “Coalition of the Willing” 19-point peace proposal as a substitute to Trump’s 28-point plan, which the government and media imply is pro-Russian and supported by President Putin. (Both suppositions are false.)

Jeppe Duvå, editor of the Christian Daily, headlined his November 28 editorial, “The Alternative to Trump’s [28-point plan] Cannot Be Endless War.”

“Without mincing words, some European leaders say: The war shall continue so that Putin does not get resources to whet his appetite against other European countries…[Nevertheless] it is an exorbitant and deeply ethically problematic wish that Ukraine continues to sacrifice its men so that others can avoid offering our men.”

Nevertheless, the newspaper’s advertising branch is not keeping pace with the newly found idea that Europe should end the war. On the page after the editorial is a half-page add by “Rebuild Ukraine,” calling for readers to send money for clothing so that Ukrainian soldiers can keep warm while they kill and are killed.

The only peace plan for the inevitable Russian victory will be:

a) Crimean and Donbas regions now in the Russian Federation since the peoples’ referendum remain in Russia; b) Ukraine will not be in NATO nor have associated “military security”; c) legal protection for ethnic Russians in Ukraine; and d) de-Nazification process must begin to re-educate the rampant fascist mentality instilled in the government, military, and much of the population since the 2014 neo-fascist coup financed and organized by the Obama administration.

November 2025 will be remembered as the beginning of the end for PM Mette Frederiksen’s political career, and the end of silence among the Danish population: Enough is Enough!

Following President Trump’s new National Security Strategy, Denmark became the first NATO and EU country to announce that the United States is a “potential security threat” to its sovereignty. On December 10, the Danish Defense Intelligence Service made this astonishing judgment of global reality based primarily on Trump’s threats that the U.S. might use “military power” to takeover Greenland.

[I dedicate this article to my loved one, Jette Salling, with her favorite Danish-Norwegian peace song sung by folk-pop musician Kim Larsen. “Surrounded by Enemies” was written by Danish composer Otto Mortensen and Norwegian poet Nordahl Grieg in 1952.]

Surrounded by enemies, enter your time.
During a bloody storm, we bring you to battle.
It may happen that you ask in fear, uncovered, openly
What shall I fight with, what is my weapon?

Here is your protection against violence, here is your sword
Faith in our life, the value of man
For the sake of all our future, see it and cultivate it.
Die if you must, but, increase it and strengthen it.

Silently go the sliding bands of grenades
Stop their drift towards death, stop them with spirit
War is contempt for life, peace is creation
Throw in your strength, evil must lose.

Noble is man, the earth is rich
If hunger and want exist here, it is due to fraud
Yes, yes, in the name of life, injustice must fall
Sunshine and bread and spirit, owned by all.

This is our promise, from sister to brother
we will be good to the earth of men
we will take care of the beauty, the warmth
as if we were carrying a child gently in our arms.
