Born in Brooklyn, New York, Greg Carey grew up in a small New Jersey town.
After graduating high school, he attended Villanova University, earning a BA in History.
Tiring of east coast winters, he fled the Atlantic states for sunny California, and the University of Santa Clara, where he earned a MA in Modern Chinese History.
Enjoying graduate student life—perhaps a bit too much—he then enrolled at the University of California, Davis to study Modern Russian History. He completed all course work and tests, but left the program before writing his dissertation. Instead, he picked up a teaching credential and began his teaching career at an independent, private school in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He currently teaches American Studies and Philosophy of Mindfulness. Next year, he will also teach Hidden History, which will examine American foreign policy from an anti-imperialist perspective. He is married and has a son.
